Launch of Defending Democracy in Exile: Policy Responses to Transnational Repression

On 2 June 2022, Freedom House will virtually launch their new report, Defending Democracy in Exile: Policy Responses to Transnational Repression. The report finds that policymakers, tech companies, and international organizations alike have been slow to recognize the threat that transnational repression poses to fundamental rights and freedoms, as well as to democracy itself. It builds on the data in Freedom House's 2021 analysis of the scale and scope of transnational repression, highlighting trends in authoritarian practices and domestic responses.

The event will begin with a presentation of the report findings, which will be followed by a panel of experts discussing recent incidents of transnational repression and potential solutions moving forward.
